Standard Aero Almondbank has hosted the latest in a series of Sharing in Growth STAR days designed to build a community of best practice.
Hosted by Graeme Hughes, Operations Manager, at Standard Aero, it was attended by Derek Sanders, General Manager, and David Arnott, Senior Buyer, both Gentex Europe, Stranraer, Dale Harris, Operations Director, ATL Dundee, Iain Rogers, General Manager and Michael McGowan, Cell Leader, both of Castle Precision Engineering, Glasgow, Mark Walker, Managing Director, and John Hands, Operations Manager, both of Walker Precision Engineering, Glasgow.
The best practice sharing section of the day focussed on the work Standard Aero has done to communicate their top-level strategy and align local objectives and project goals. This included a Go Look See of Standard’s communication wall and examples of strategy deployment in the Ecureuil and Chinook value streams.
After lunch the team focussed on fresh eyes input in establishing a Lighthouse Cell by reviewing current status, deciding three priority areas and agreeing follow up actions in the areas of leadership, cost and people.
Said Derek Sanders, General Manager, Gentex Europe: “I felt the STAR event was an excellent opportunity to network and get a feel for how the other businesses were progressing towards their journey in delivering against their improvement plans. I specifically got some ideas around improved visual management and felt that the facilitation and amenities on site were very good on the day”
The event was supported by SiG team Ali Gower, Gary Duncan, Barry Munro, Jim Houston, Steve Spencer, Rishabh Bothra and Charlie Ivatt.
Said Steve Spencer: “Feedback was positive and a follow up STAR day is planned for March at Castle Precision Engineering to share best practice at their Cone Cell Lighthouse.”
