Sharing in Growth has become one of the first signatories to the Women in Aviation and Aerospace Charter – a pledge to build a more balanced and fair industry for women.
Ashlea Finn, Sharing in Growth business transformation manager, has been selected to join the charter steering committee and, supported by training and recruitment co-ordinator Jess Harvey, will champion the activity within the Sharing in Growth community. Having Ashlea on the steering committee will ensure that Sharing in Growth has an input into actions taken across the sector.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Transport have welcomed the charter and said that it recognises more needs to be done to enhance the gender balance in the sectors.
Organisations that sign up to this Charter are committing to be the very best at driving diversity and inclusion within their sector and providing fair opportunities for women to succeed at the highest levels.
The Charter reflects the shared aspiration to see gender balance at all levels across aviation and aerospace and commits organisations to set their own targets, if appropriate, and to implement the right strategy for their organisation.
Said Ashlea: “I am delighted that Sharing in Growth has signed up to this charter and that I have been asked to champion our activity. This programme has given me so much opportunity to learn and develop and meet some fantastic women in our beneficiaries, and it’s great to feel that I can potentially help other women take advantage of the opportunities out there. Our Sharing in Growth vision talks about the next generation and we need to ensure we create the opportunity for this to include women.
“The Sharing in Growth board is fully committed to making changes and our initial areas for focus will be around how we attract, recruit and retain female coaches. In 2019 there will be opportunities for other members of the Sharing in Growth community to be involved in some of the changes we make internally and how we look to be a positive influence within the wider Sharing in Growth community.”
