TMD Technologies has held a STAR (Sharing Together Achieves Results) Day which focused on the company’s implementation of Sharing in Growth’s lighthouse concept.
Attendees included Paul Warburton of Ferranti, Chris Hayley of Amphenol Invotec, Dan King and Sean Collins of Standard Aero, Karol Krzyzanowski and Gary Card of Rockford, Mark Wilkinson and David Yule of Safran, and Michael Carlisle of Independent Forgings.
The day opened with an introduction to TMD by operations director David Pike and an explanation of the company’s journey with Sharing in Growth. Around 30 TMD colleagues then delved deeper into the improvement activities they had undertaken, sharing their successes and lessons learned.
The TMD team next shared how they had implemented a lighthouse in their equipment area with a presentation and a tour. This established a best practice work area and developed the team’s skills so that the approach can be rolled out across the rest of the business. As part of this activity, the lighthouse team redefined the company values bringing them to life through characters drawn by the team themselves, this served to endorse their values which include collaboration and creativity.
In the afternoon the guests were invited to input to the creation of a Business Development Information Centre to help align and communicate the efforts of sales, operations and engineering functions in a clear and visual way.
A feedback discussion showed that TMD’s planning and preparation had paid off with guests commenting that TMD demonstrated a great team ethos where they ‘looked and sounded like a family’ and that they demonstrated ‘passion with great company values’.
Said SiG’s business transformation coach Alexandra Poole: “TMD can be really proud of delivering such an inspirational STAR Day, with all those involved gaining knowledge and motivation to make further impactful improvements within their companies.”
