Women in Aviation and Aerospace charter seminar

Women in Aviation and Aerospace charter seminar

Sharing in Growth is running a Women in Aviation and Aerospace charter seminar on Thursday 7 March. The event is part of the celebration of International Women’s Day on 8th March.

The event will be held at the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre in Derby and aims to encourage attendees to support the charter – a pledge to build a more balanced and fair industry for women.

Women are under-represented in aviation and aerospace. They comprise only 4% of commercial pilots, and there is a well-recognised shortage of women studying science, technology and engineering (STEM) subjects compared to men.

The charter was launched at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2018 and Sharing in Growth was one of the first signatories.

Andy Page Sharing in Growth CEO explained: “If we are to succeed in our vision of developing highly valued manufacturing for this generation and the next, then it’s essential that manufacturing adapts to appeal to the full demographic of society where one of the most glaring disparities is women.”

Sharing in Growth business transformation manager Ashlea Finn is a member of charter steering committee. She said: “As the leading aerospace supplier development organisation, we are uniquely placed to get the message out to the UK aerospace supply chain that we all have a role to play in promoting gender balance at all levels across aviation and aerospace. Signing up to the charter commits organisations to be the very best at driving diversity and inclusion within their sector and to providing fair opportunities for women to succeed at the highest levels.”

Sharing in Growth has already established its own working group and a plan of activity, focussing initially on how to attract, recruit and retain female coaches.

The seminar will include several presentations and facilitated breakout sessions for invitees who include more than 60 Sharing in Growth beneficiaries along with Charter Steering Board representatives. The speakers will include:

  • Lesley So and Richard Bateman from Rolls-Royce
  • Stephen Cummins from the Department for Transport
  • Jayne Moorby from Sharing in Growth beneficiary Oxley Developments
  • Nick Goss from the Aerospace Growth Partnership
  • Sharing in Growth CEO Andy Page and Ashlea Finn

Any organisation wishing to find out more, attend the event or sign up to the charter should contact Ashlea Finn on ashlea.finn@sig-uk.org or telephone 07826 905202.
